Fred Sagwe: Classroom Teacher Itierio Boys' High School
For the beloved Kenyan teachers to rectify and roll back the big mistake and blunder they made in elevating the Teacher Service Commission to a constitutional body during the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.
The Kenyan teachers need approximately over 1 million signatures by online and printout campaigns to petition the Kenya National Assembly and the Senate including the BBI initiative to disband it ,and revert it back ,where it initially belonged. To the Ministry of Education Research and Technology
As a matter of fact the teacher's day-to-day activities ,curriculum implementation, supervision ,quality assurance and standards and assessment fall directly under the State Department of Basic Education. The TSC has been shamelessly duplicating this role,to purportedly to act independently of the Ministry of Education, by appointing their curriculum and quality assurance officers.Over-burdening the Kenyan tax-payers.
From the time immemorial, the Kenyan teachers have not got an extra penny .Without resulting to public strikes ,court orders and or parliamentary initiative.from the unionists like what the KUPPET\ fought on the need to increase medical allowances for the teacher fraternity.
The usage of appraisal and performance tools like the infamous Teacher Performance Appraisal And Development (TPAD) is which was dismissed by our competed courts.Has not lived or attained it's goals.Since most teachers "copy and paste" and "cook" termly figures to satisfy the whims and ego of the "tyrannical and dictatorial regime" of the TSC management.
The teacher professional development and the continuous capacity building ,one of it's core mandate, has suffered and in downward spiral, with no tangible progress seen. Before it's "independence" the Ministry of Education managed to train the ICT Champions and the ICT Master Trainers .Hence helping in the digital literacy in the country.
The commission does not even support it's teachers and educators attending national educational conferences, symposia and meetup as per diem, except a letter of support it gives.Citing "financial challenges",while other countries globally do support their teachers. But ,only waits to "piggy ride" on it's teachers global success- cide Peter Tabichi and other esteemed Kenyan teachers.
In conclusion ,the ball is now in the teachers court. To do what a man got do and redeen ourselves from the "nightmare" experiences.

After the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) made a proposal and submission to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) .On the need for the teachers to be placed under the direct management of the Ministry of Education and not the current employer-the Teacher Service Commission .
Which has become - belligerent and doing a lot of disservice to it's hard-working teachers.
Although the KNUT leadership erred in opposing the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
There is nothing wrong or new for the Kenyan teachers to agitate for this radical proposal and change.Since even the Public Service Commission (PSC) proposed to the BBI ,that all the health functions should be reverted back to the national government, from the current devolved governments.
The TSC has erred from issues ranging from: job motivation, salary increments, welfare ,teachers management and discipline.Which should be handled by an independent regulatory body .Since most teachers have no faith and trust on how to commission handles their cases. Especially if you have been a victim. When the cases are appealed in the court of the law.As usual the TSC has been a perennial loser..!!
