Tech trivia of the Day:

Coding is the new literacy. To thrive in tomorrow’s society, young people must learn to design, create and express themselves with digital technologies ,” says Mitchel Resnick ,a media arts and sciences professor at the MIT Media Lab.

-You don't  have to be a part  of Code Club, Coder Dojo or other group to participate.
- Moonhack  is designed  for anyone who is curious  to give coding a try .We also want to inspire those familiar with coding to create and share their best work as part of the world record.

STEM Skills

Moonhack 2018 projects will have relevant  links to:

a) Gravity
b)The planets
c)Critical  thinking
d)coding

Projects

-The projects are here to find inspiration and get a Moonhack project going .You can choose  to use our guides and project samples, or you can create your own from lots over great friends and partners

           Requisites

a) Projects should  take around  an hour to complete.

b) LunarLander [ Scratch ] : write a lunar game in Scratch.

c) Moons [ Python ] :write  a program that outputs the moons of a planet.

d)Write your own Any space  /moon themed project  can be submitted  during  Moonhack!

NB:
-You must register your event  attendance  at  MoonHack Register to be counted  towards the record-setting event!

Moon Landing & Walking

-In 20 July  1969 the first humans to ever touch down on the moon did so in the LunarModule .Landing this machine was no easy task. The pilot , Neil Armstrong had to guide the craft to the optimal  landing.

"Words said when Armstrong first stepped onto the Moon (20 July 1969). In the actual sound recordings he apparently fails to say "a" before "man" and says: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." "

     Code Club
Code Club is a nationwide  network  of volunteers -led coding clubs with a mission to get #getkidscoding

-All Code clubs are free to join  ,and are supported  by volunteers , parents , educators and our partners.
-There are about 10,000 Code Clubs globally.

     What is Moonhack?

Moonhack is a celebration of human  technological achievements,on the anniversary  of the first moon landing.

- Moonhack is a world  record setting  event for everyone to participate .The campaign  is aimed  at kids who knows to code and the kiadults, adults , teachers , libraries and  hobbyists around  them who want to encourage  kids to explore  and achieve  through  education .

Learning  through Do's

-We believe  that the pathways to sparking  a love for lifelong  learning is through  collaboration , creativity and through   DOING! Code Club is a movement  sparked through the idea that this kind of education  should  be  available  to every  kid ,in every village , town, and city in the world.

-The future will, need skills  like: programming , software development ,  coding and skills to build digital technology & pursue  STEM education.

Embed literacy  into STEM projects

-As STEM, STEAM & STEAM educators ,we want to help students  think and work like scientists , engineers and computational thinkers .But that involves  more than introducing  students to design processes  or teaching them about technology tools . The work of engineers  involves collaboration , communication , global citizenship  and literacy skills .

Remember  ,learning  has no finish  line..!!

-Take a moment  to reflect on the words of Dr. Stephen  R.Covey, "Through  you may find some of it to be simple common sense ,remember  common sense is not common practice, and I guarantee that if you will focus your efforts in these areas, you will come into your life."
- I believe these words can be applied in learning CT (and any new concept or practice ) as we help students  use what they already know to devedevelop their CS superpowers!

              Final Advice

Last ,but not least : one cannot become  a professional  programmer in 2 weeks,2 months or even  a year.It takes time and patience.

- Trainers should  not rush or make false promises .They should  focus on whether students understand the concepts and not in one or too fast.

- Computational  thinking (CT) is the highest  order of problem -solving , a cross-curricular skill ,and is understandable  to both machines and humans

-Help your students  become computational  thinkers by building their competency in decomposition , pattern recognition , abstraction , abstraction and algorithm design.
