The learn to code movement
gained a wave of great interest in the recent years. The year 2015
wasn’t any exception and people became more aware about the skills they
can acquire by learning programming languages. With changing technology,
the needs of industry changes and it’s reflected in the popularity
trends of programming languages.
For a developer, one of the biggest challenges is to recognize his/her needs and learn the right programming language accordingly. Over the course of year 2015, we have seen various lists of the most popular programming languages that ranked these languages using different criteria. At fossBytes, we have used the Google Trends data to rank these languages and prepare our year-end list.
Based upon the Google Trends data, as shown in the graphs below, we can clearly see that Java was searched the most throughout 2015. As a result, Java is at the #1 spot at out list of the most popular programming languages.
However, things changed in November when python surpassed Java to become the most searched programming language after closely following it at the #2 spot. Looking at the past trends, we observe that the popularity of python has witnessed an increase over the past year and it’s being reflected clearly in the graph.
The next spots are taken by the C and C++ as they claim the #3 and #4 spots, respectively. Javascript claimed the #5 spot as it continues to rule the web.
