Chess and Mathematics

Chess and mathematics have been pursued intellectually for centuries by many researchers and scientists ,especially mathematicans.Naturally ,the logic and symmetry in chess appeal to mathematicians.

Many researchers who had some interest in chess did not have formal training in mathematics. However, they either contributed to mathematics or used mathematics in their profession.

How doea Math relate with Chess?
lAre there links between mathematics? Studies have shown that students playing chess have increased problem solving skills over their peers.
l Research suggests that while students playing chess learn concepts through physical and visual stimuli and correlate these concepts to cognitive patterns, mathematics in the classroom usually involves only pure symbolic manipulation. Thus there seems to be some evidence to suggest that chess acts as a sort of link in connecting form (symbolic) with understanding (physical and visual)
l
lIf we reduce mathematics to algorithms, numbers and equations in the classroom we are falling far behind global best practice in mathematics. Mathematics is more than equations and numbers. Mathematics is pattern recognition and analysis of patterns.
l
lChess is a game of prediction, calculation and pattern recognition. Predicting consequences and pattern recognition are key elements of mathematics and chess.
